Hydra is a long narrow island. There are almost no vehicles on the island. Since its discovery by European film makers, the island has aspired to become an artists' colony and a retreat of intellectuals. Idhra which when approached by the sea give one the feeling of a huge amphitheatre. There are a number of imposing mansions built in the 1800 in a Venetian style. There are a number of hidden beaches to explore.
